Beginning in 2022, through the generosity of the David B. Waters Charitable Foundation, a partnership was created between the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and The University of Tulsa (TU) that allows a quintet of TSO musicians to serve as musicians-in-residence from September through May each season. These musicians, known as the David B. Waters String Quintet, meet twice weekly for quintet rehearsal and rehearsal with the TU orchestra students on the TU campus.
The Quintet conducts masterclasses for students in local string programs throughout Northeastern Oklahoma and offers mentorship opportunities to TU orchestra students throughout the year. In addition to providing music education to students, the String Quintet performs two recitals at TU’s Lorton Performance Center, one in the fall semester and one in the spring semester – both free and open to the public.
This program is invaluable for furthering TSO’s impact on the city of Tulsa and strengthening the future of classical music.
