Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, Renowned Oklahoma Chickasaw Composer

Muscogee Hymn Suite is an orchestration of five traditional Muscogee (Creek) church hymns. One unique result of European contact is the American Indian church hymn. As missionaries fanned out across Indian Country they became the first to document our Native languages and create translations of Christian texts, including church hymns. This lead to a new series of a hybrid music, composed by tribal citizens.

*This World Premiere for orchestra and children’s choir by Oklahoma Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate is made possible in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mid-America Arts Alliance.
